Special Olympics is a global not-for-profit sporting organization providing regular sporting opportunities for people with an intellectual disability. In Australia, over 6,000 athletes are involved in regular sporting programs and in NSW there are currently 19 Special Olympics Regions covering the state delivering a variety of sporting programs with the assistance of over 300 volunteers.
Special Olympics is not all about the winning of medals or determining who is the best. It is about participation and encouraging all athletes to give their personal best. Special Olympics improves the fitness, confidence and self esteem of people with an intellectual disability with parents and friends enjoying the opportunity to discuss similar life experiences with each other.
At this meeting we will:
- Provide information to families, athletes & supporters about Special Olympics and all of the sporting, social & life skills opportunities for people living with an intellectual disability
- Hear from a Special Olympics athlete and parent of how Special Olympics has transformed their lives
- Register new athletes who can then commence their Special Olympics training straight away!
Register your attendance to this community meeting today!
