Down Syndrome NSW is an independent, parent run, registered charity established in 1980. As an organisation we encourage people with Down syndrome to reach their potential as valued citizens within the wider community. We represent the interests of, and are dedicated to making a difference to, the lives of people with Down syndrome, their families and friends.

Our mission is to support and promote the interests of all people with Down syndrome, their families and carers, in the major aspects and transitions in their lives. We are dedicated to improving the wellbeing and quality of life for people with Down syndrome and seek to empower and enable our membership and supporters through:

• Contact support for families and carers of individuals of all ages with Down syndrome.
• Generating and disseminating information to our membership, professionals and the community at large.
• Creating and promoting innovative programmes which further the development of individuals with Down syndrome.
• Raising positive public awareness about Down syndrome.
• Promoting equal rights for people with Down syndrome both individually and collectively. Contributing to the shaping of Government policy and service provision.
• Representing the interest of our constituency in local state and national forums.
• Encouraging and assisting research initiatives into issues relating to Down syndrome.
• Raising funds for the above purposes 

The continuing work of Down Syndrome NSW depends on the generosity of its members and the general public in supporting its fundraising efforts.

Lake Cargellico fundraiser for Down Syndrome NSW

Coden Stenhouse is just eighteen months old, but but he is already well known and loved in his home town of Lake Cargellico in the Riverina.The Tullibigeal Lakes United Sharks rugby league club held a very successful charity day on 26th June, with more than $12,500 raised for Down Syndrome NSW! The local community really got behind the day, at which Coden was the mascot, in his own tailor made Sharks jersey. 

Coden with his cousins, Jaden and Tenayah Kelly modelling the charity jerseys that were so succesfully auctioned on the day. 

The event was big news in the Lakes News. Coden is pictured with his Mum, Deanna.

Organiser Kerry Amoamo reports that the weather was perfect, the crowd huge and the auction of football jerseys awesome, under the gavel of Dasher Frankel. Coden had a great day, along with his little friend from Condobolin, Jock. Junior, senior and first grade matches between the Sharks and the West Wyalong Mallee men entertained the crowd.

Funds were also raised through a raffle and donations. Kel's Kitchens provided the much appreciated coffee, and donated the proceeds.

Independent Support Brokerage - Two day Introduction Course

People with Disability is offering a substantial course on Independent Support Brokerage:

27 April–28 April 2011
9:30am–4:30pm

Stronger Together 2 has made a commitment to person-centred approaches, with people with disability given the option to use individualised funding to control the supports they receive. This policy recognises the role that Support Brokers will play in assisting people with disability, and their families and carers, to manage these individualised supports.

Join international experts Alison Short and Steve Dowson for this two-day course, as they provide you with a clear explanation of the international history of individualised funding, its principles and benefits, and the role of the support broker.

Pilot Air donates $5000 to Scrapheap Adventure 2011 !

Perry Gilsenan accepted a $5000 sponsorship cheque for the 2011 Scrapheap Adventure from Martin Wyllie at Pilot Air on Monday 4^th April.
